Jewellery Care

While our jewellery is created to last for lifetime, there are some factors that can contribute to the everyday wear and tear of your fine jewellery.

Storing Your Jewellery

Because of the high value and rarity of certain jewellery, some people like to store their jewellery in a safe when not in use. If you have individual gemstones, a soft pouch is good for keeping them from coming in contact with other hard surfaces. It is best to store gold and silver jewellery in a cool, dry place, preferably in a soft piece of felt or cloth. All our jewellery Products come along with a Jewellery Box to help you store your jewellery securely.

Cleaning Your Jewellery

Be careful using ultrasonic cleaners, as only certain gemstones can handle the ultrasonic vibrations. Pearls, opals, and other soft stones shouldn’t be cleaned in ultrasonic cleaners. Diamond cleaners usually contain ammonia and water specifically meant for diamonds and may not be the best solution for other stones. Silver jewellery can be cleaned with a silver polishing cloth, with or without special silver cleaning solution.

Using a soft brush you can remove dust or dirt from under the setting. However you must consider that your prongs could be loose, you could potentially remove dirt that is holding your stones in. If you haven’t cleaned your jewellery in awhile get in touch with our Customer Service Representative to know about the Jewellery cleaning procedure along with a free inspection by Sogani Jewellers team.

Diamond & Gemstone Care

Quality jewellery such as engagement rings, wedding bands, gemstones and pearls that may be worn frequently could lose their sparkle if not cleaned on a regular basis.

  • Don’t apply lotion while wearing your jewellery. Lotions put film on diamonds, gemstones, and pearls reducing their luster.
  • Don’t wear your jewellery in pools, lakes, the ocean and especially hot tubs. EVER!
  • Chlorine and other chemicals can damage and discolor alloys in metal (like gold and platinum) which could slowly erode the metal and color of the gemstones. Also if you have a loose stone and it gets lost while swimming your jewellery could become a sunken treasure.
  • Don’t wear your jewellery while doing yard work, working out at the gym, moving, or any other physical activity where you may hit or put pressure on your jewellery, or get something like sand and dirt in the settings.
  • Contrary to popular belief diamonds can get chipped if hit hard enough, prongs can also become broken or loose resulting in lost stones.
  • Last but not least avoid touching diamonds with your fingers since smudges can dull your diamond’s shine. Also avoid wearing jewellery when excessively sweating as the salt in sweat can eat away at the alloys in the metal over time.

  • Do see us every 6 months to have one of our jewelers clean and inspect your jewellery for loose prongs and wear and tear on mountings.
  • Do clean your diamond and gemstones regularly.
  • A simple plan to keep your diamond and gemstone jewellery always looking beautiful is to clean your stones with any one of our trusted jewellery cleaners. Our diamond experts can help you find the jewellery cleaner appropriate for your needs. Clean your jewellery once or twice a week. After you’ve let your jewellery stay in the cleaner as directed remove the jewellery from the cleaner and brush it with a soft, clean toothbrush to remove any leftover dirt. Take extra care to brush the back of the stones as this will be the area that has collected the most oil and dirt.
  • Keep in mind that removing dirt could loosening your setting, once that dirt is removed there may be extra space in between your stone and setting which could cause you to lose your stone for good.
